OpenAir Theme

This is a WordPress 3.2-tested theme, not thrown together so much as just ‘clicked’ one day. It is a theme for both beginner and medium user alike, very easy to use, nice pleasant colours, and look. It is gravatar-ready, widget-ready, and SEO-friendly.

It’s a two two or three column theme, sidebar on the right as you can see from the screenshot above – click the screenshot to go to one of my test blogs with the theme in action. As of March 2009 it now has an admin panel in the wordpress admin backend that lets you set which side the sidebar rests on, left or right.

The theme has been tested up to WordPress 3.2 and will be updated as and when newer versions come out.

If you like this wordpress theme, or others, please consider making a donation.

Download the Theme (current version 1.4.0 – August 15th, 2011).

What new in the version 1.3.3? There’s a new admin section to let you put in google analytics code, so it can be automatically added to the theme. A few minor adjustments to the post template, and some code adjustments to the header to configure it more for html5.

In version 1.4.0 I added a section to let you choose the width of the display. It is set to a default of 825 pixels.

To see the theme in action select the OpenAir link below to change the theme on this site for 10 minutes.

Can I post errors here? Hope so, I’m running wordpress 2.6.2 and every plugin I install gives me an error when I activate it and also when I submit any changes to settings Here it is:

Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /home/…/blog/wp-content/themes/openair/functions.php:11) in /home/…/blog/wp-includes/classes.php on line 806

What am I missing here?

rich says:

Hi Keryp,

Yes you can post errors here, or even on the forums.

Try this solution here.

Richard

keryp says:

Thank you, I followed the error message and removed a couple of blank lines after the closing php tag and it works, all the plugins and everything! Thanks!

raul says:

I liked this theme, nice colors. However, everytime I visit a page with comments I recieve this message at the end of the page:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_ENDFOREACH in D:\webserver\pg3\blog\wp-content\themes\openair\comments.php on line 58

I can add and read comments with other themes, but I can´t with this one. Can you help me?

rich says:

Raul – do you have any special plugins in action, that might affect pages or comments?

rich says:

Raul, here’s my test blog address where OpenAir was built, testing a page link: http://www.richarddows.co.uk/testblog2/page-test/

The comments seem to work. I wonder if something else you have active on your blog might be interfering somehow.

raul says:

No, the page is new. Thanks, anyway. I’m reinstalling wordpress to try again

Tim says:

Hi Richard. Is there any ‘quick and easy’ way to get pages working on this theme?

I love the clean transparent look, but need multiple pages if possible.

Ta,
T.

rich says:

Hi Tim

Yes pages should work as normal, but if you need to alter the template at all, copy index.php to page.php and alter that. But, without page.php it will use the index.php file.

Richard

Tim says:

Finally found my randomly generated password for this site. Just wanted to say thx for the reply.

lbesing says:

I initally tried installing this theme using WP 2.2.3 and it blew up. I’m now in the process of upgrading to WP 2.7, and will attempt installing it again. Hopefully I won’t blow up the site completely during the upgrade attempt. At least it’s a new, almost blank blog installation.

Hey! It worked! Yeah!

Thanks for creating and sharing.

rich says:

Glad you like it lbesing! New version coming soon should let the sidebar be on either side.

EinbauStrahler says:

I love clean templates, nice colors pickup, it looks effective. I hope to see more themes like this one.

johndoe3815 says:

Hi I have a question, I really like your open air design but I wish it had a column for Google Adds. For instance this layout on this site with the open air background design would be great. Please email me if there is something like that in the works or if there is a way to make it work for my site.

Ken

rich says:

Someone had mailed me suggesting a version of the theme with another column. I might be able to do something about it this weekend.

johndoe3815 says:

thank you for your quick reply, I wasn’t even sure if this site was still being operated since the last comments were a couple months old

rich says:

It sure is, I just reply to some people via email that’s all.

johndoe3815 says:

Oh by the way is there anyway to have the screen size re-size itself based on the individual screen resolution of the viewers?

rich says:

Not with the current configuration/setup no. But I can chalk it in for future updates and make the columns percentage based instead of fixed width.

johndoe3815 says:

Ok thanks, And I hope you are able to get the 2 column option done soon.

John Jackson says:

Want to let you know right off the bat that I am a total rookie when it comes to blogs.
You mentioned something on here (on May 27th) about the columns resizing. Well I think that is the problem I am having. I am running 1.3.2 version by the way. When I put in 2 columns, it is very nice. When I switch to 3 columns, my pictures all go off center and basically all which a way. I’m thing if I could expand the column a little bit, it would fit the pictures back in fine. The pictures were good with a previous 3 column theme I was using before, so this confused me. Please let me know something on this soon. You know I looked at over 500 themes today, I’ve dwindled it down to 9 now, and this one, so far is my favorite of the 9. I’m waiting t see what my few readers think of it.
Oh, and is there a way to have a # of hits to the blog displayed on the front page?
Thanks for the great, free theme. When/If I start making some money on this darn thing, I’ll remember to sent you a nice donation.

downbike says:

Is there a way to have 2 sidebars? I want 2 sides bar, one on the left and the other one on the right just like the theme you’re using.

johndoe3815 says:

Hi I was wondering how that new version of the open air design with 2 side bars was coming? You had mentioned you hoped to have it done last weekend and I was wondering if that happened or not. please email me to let me know – johndoe3815@yahoo.com

rich says:

Hi John, working on it today. Will probably have a release version by the end of the day.

rich says:

John, the theme has been updated – now has two or three columns. The version is now 1.3.0 try it out!

johndoe3815 says:

Okay where can I get this theme at? Do I find it on wordpress?

johndoe3815 says:

By the way Thank you!

rich says:

You’re welcome! The download link is in the text of this post, way up at the top. It will be on wordpress when they ok it.

gih says:

Thanks Richard from across the pond for a great WP theme, perfect for what I was looking for, and your responsiveness on the tweaks! Enjoying choice on gravatar location for comments. Many thanks!

rich says:

Hi Gordon, thanks for the comment, the theme will be updated again in the next few days as I have one or two more adjustments to make.

shami says:

hi there

I would like to know it it’s possible to put in a picture header above the posting section .. also would like to know about adding things to the side bar .. and changing the width of the theme.. (openair) is what we are using ..

any help would be greatly appreciated

shami

rich says:

It’s possible yes.

You could insert an image directly into the header.php just above the

section. You could alter the css file for #header, giving it a background image (the image you want), then altering the css entry for #text, changing the margin so it doesn’t interfere with the image (or remove it entirely from the header.php).

What kinds of things do you want doing to the sidebar?

Richard

crazybobcat says:

Hey Rich,
Just wanted to say thanks for a cracking theme. It’s nearly everything I wanted from 3 columns to semi-transparency and so on.
I am, however, having a bit of a problem with the columns. Two columns works perfectly. Three columns works if I choose Left or Right. If I choose Side Sidebars, it all goes a bit pear shaped on me and one of the two columns (sometimes it’s left, sometimes it’s right) disappears. The centre div shrinks to accommodate all 3 columns, but I can’t get the third column and all its widgets to appear.
I’d appreciate any thoughts you might have on this.
Cheers,
Kyle

rich says:

Hey crazybobcat – are you using the latest version? The 1.3.2 release fixes that small error with sidebars and layout.

crazybobcat says:

Hi Rich,
I am using 1.3.1.
I’ve just downloaded 1.3.2 and will install it in a bit. Thanks for the prompt response.

As an aside, mate, your download links at the top don’t work. You have them pointed to http://www.theenglishguy.co.uk/downloads/OpenAir1.3.2.zip; I had to change that link location to http://www.theenglishguy.co.uk/free_downloads/OpenAir1.3.2.zip to get it. Just a head’s up.

rich says:

Hi crazybobcat – I hope that fixes the errors you’re running into.

I’ll change those links, thanks for the heads up!

Richard

crazybobcat says:

Rich,
They did fix the errors I was having with the 3 column layout. Thanks again!

Thangaraju says:

CV Template says:

I uploaded this theme and say looks serious eye candy! loved it ..the attractive color and layout! I have no complaints..thanks for sharing this with me!!

Raju Madhureddy says:

I really like your theme..Because I am a technical idiot, please help me make an addition on my blogsite.

Hi,
I was asking before on how to remove the avatar as it does not keep up with the dates.
There is no setting on OPTIONS to remove avatar.

Also I want to remove the menu on the top. Adding widgets doesn’t seem to work.
I have downloaded the latest version 1.4
Thanks for a great theme.
