We’ve heard of Dooce, getting fired for her blog. We’ve probably heard of Petite Anglaise, who also got fired for blogging.
Now we have, amazingly, a politician suspended from the Canadian Tory caucus for yes, you got it, blogging. It seems like no-one can speak their mind anywhere anymore.
Given that over here in Blighty, a Labour politician had a video blog mimicking and pouring scorn upon the Tory leader’s own video blog, I’d think that most politicians would have some kind of protection re what they can say.
The MP in question, Garth Turner, said in one of his blog postings:
“I work for the voters — the people, the taxpayers. After that I heed my party and the political establishment. All are important, of course, but the people come first,” Mr. Turner wrote.
Seems like a fairly conscientious politician, or an astute one skilled in the art of rhetoric, or the least likely explanation, a truly honest one…
