Is it too much to ask that foreigners who are convicted of a crime, be sent home to serve their prison sentences?

I thought that this was actually the case. But no, apparently they aren’t automatically sent home. The recent ‘crisis’ about the lack of prison cells has brought this into sharp focus. Now, we hear that foreign prisoners will actually be paid up to £2,500 to resettle back home. ‘Resettle’? Surely they mean, be sent to prisons in their own country?

Mind you, the Home Office says that each prisoner actually costs £37,000 to house.

We are so short of prison cells now, that the Home Office has drafted plans to use police prison cells to house prisoners.

I have an idea. How about spending some of the £billions that is going to Iraq and Afghanistan, and build some new prisons?
