The title of this post comes from the Digg article that made me stop and think about the whole scenario.
If you haven’t been under a rock for the past decade, you’ll know N. Korea has had some “issues” with the world at large. Namely, Kim Jong-Il starves his people, puts massive resources into his military, threatens people with developing the atom bomb (and now supposedly has it), and now is threatening people with testing it.
But what made me think is this: what’s he going to do with it if (when) he gets it?
I mean seriously, regardless of your political standpoint here, left or right, what do you honestly think he’ll do? Using is, whilst a serious option, is politically suicidal. Nuking say, S. Korea gets the western powers in your face (let’s not forget the recent border tensions either) but then again maybe he wants to finish the Korean War? He’s not going to attack China. He could threaten Japan but I think that’s all he can do there (nuking Japan will force them to become a more aggressive power, which China will try everything to avoid).
So what’s the point? Blackmailing the US over and over can only work so many times. Eventually a President will come along and call his bluff.
I haven’t talked to many people about the implications, or what they think so here I am asking you, the reader, to give your opinion. What do you think his aim is? What’s the point of N. Korea having an atom bomb?
