This is not the time to be a politically active blogger in Iran.
That is, if you’re pro-democracy.
If you’re pro-mullah, pro-dictatorship, pro-shariah, then by all means, blog away. As has the Iranian President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. I don’t want to give the man any positive traffic, so I’ll write out the site: www DOT ahmadinejad DOT ir
Of course, reading the BBC‘s article on this hypocrisy, you can read a talkbyte by Keivan Mehrgan who thought that the President’s blog was just a publicity stunt, as did Guerre. Now that’s not too obvious, is it?
There must be some media-savvy people in the Iranian government though, it is a clever way to get Iranian politics into the mainstream. Tough to work out whether it was Ahmadinejad himself pushing for the blog, or someone with some brains behind the scenes. A bit of humor into the conversation though, apparently the politically sensitive censor mechanism shut his blog down
