Given that I, and most people I know, work on the weekdays, the only real day I have to do anything in Saturday. Now, I get off work on Friday at 3pm, so I have a little time then, to do banking for example, or to get some food shopping in.

There has been a poll carried out by YouGov that found that more than half of consumers would like longer shopping hours on Sunday. I completely agree. Mind you, here on Sunday, in a sleepy little rural market town, the only shops that ARE open on Sundays are the local news shops.

I would like them to open on sundays, definately, but while I understand the arguments given by to keep sunday’s a “family day”, isn’t it the family’s choice of what they do on a sunday? Rather than force the shops closed to make sure families stay home, why not let the shops decide whether they want to open or not?

One last thing, I would REALLY like to see banking hours extended. Do you know how difficult it is to bank during the week, especially if you work 8am-5pm, when banks open 10am-4pm? Impossible! Why not let them be open longer, or open on saturdays?
