For a while after I first heard this I thought it was the usual blustering and political machinations, you know the kind, the saber-rattling moves that most people of adult age have heard time and again.
But then it struck me, if N. Korea is supposedly preparaing for a missile test, and the missile is on the pad and fueled up (as I just heard) just where are they firing it, to test if it can reach the USA?
For example, firing it south, over Japan, towards Australia isn’t exactly going to make them any more friends now is it? And, doesn’t that mean it has to go over a lot of other Asian countries, making them mad too? So going back to the USA, firing it TOWARDS the continental USA is going to set bells off.
Now just that alone kind of makes me feel a little jittery. Didn’t the USA have tons of radars and anti-missile defences pointing west towards Russia (the general direction of N. Korea) for decades? Doesn’t N. Korea realize this? Now I see why it’s a “provocative” action, if they do it, as Secretary Rice has said.
That’s why now, after thinking about it for a few hours, I can see why the USA is making such statements and why it’s so popular in the glad rags. It IS a provocative action, and it would be stupid of N. Korea to fire a missile towards the USA especially if it can REACH the USA!
And perhaps more to the point, what will happen? I mean, if N. Korea “test” launches a missile to the southeast over Japan and into the Pacific, Japan is going to be pissed. If they launch it east towards the USA the USA will be pissed (and more likely to react). If they launch south they’ll piss other nations off. I mean, come on N. Korea, wake up, pissing everyone off is not the way to get free food and oil…
