I just heard about Sir Peter Hall’s suggestion that Heathrow be phased out in favour of a new airport that he suggests be built on the Thames estuary. Interesting idea, since Heathrow DOES need more runways to carry on competing against other International airports, but my God, how much would that cost? Heathrow has had a lot of development over the years and a lot of money poured in, so just imagine the costs of building an entirely new airport of the same size, or larger, and all the infrastructure that goes with it, like rail links, road, carparks etc.,

The other thing I was thinking about, was the rise of the sea levels. If they are rising as we are being told, isn’t putting the proposed new airport on the estuary a little foolish? Are there no other areas around London that aren’t going to be used for housing but that could be used for a large airport?
