Finally, the Scots have a use for all that windy weather they get. From my sole experience up there, a “little breeze” is a force 7 gale. Hardy people, them Scots.

But now at least they can get something from it apart from having their kilts blown up - Europe’s largest onshore windfarm. Not a bad idea for a place which is mostly barren anyway, the moorlands south of Glasgow. They’ll be building 140 wind-powered turbines, about enough to power every house in Glasgow.

Good for them, I just wish the powers that be had the same foresight here. England has plenty of wind on the coasts, and off them, and plenty of wave power too. Maybe it’s time to make use of it?
