I must admit that speed cameras achieve their goal. The british roads are plastered with them, or more precisely, covered with the signs indicating that cameras are there, whether they are or not. There are many examples of that, and I won’t tell you that people know this and adjust their driving accordingly. Oops!
Anyway I read today about the speed camera that has raised a whopping £1 million in just 18 months of operation on the M62. Today at work they were talking about it too. As the BBC article quotes:
Philip Gwynne from the West Yorkshire Casualty Reduction Partnership said: “Anybody who feels that the cameras are just there to raise revenue has the power in their own hands to stop it happening.
“You just don’t speed. Then you can’t get a speeding ticket and they can’t raise revenue and we can all pack up and go home.”
I think they work, and yes from my own personal experience, I know they do since I keep my speed down. But, just don’t overdo it, you know?
