StarForce Can’t Take Criticism
Tuesday January 31, 2006
If you’re a gamer, you might have run across a software called “StarForce“. This is something installed on CDs making sure that they can’t be copied. Now, in general, I can see why game producers would use such a product, piracy is bad, and they lose money because of it. But, StarForce is notorious in that it causes problems on computers, and often causes crashes and as Boing Boing mentions, has a destabilizing effect on computers where it is installed.
Boing Boing mentioned this in a post, and then he got a letter from StarForce threatening to sue him because of his criticism. Kudos to Boing Boing for not giving in, and for sticking to his guns. His original point was quite accurate, StarForce IS known to cause some problems (and also, their website loads REALLY slow!).
