Giant Mosque for London Olympics

Pointed out to me by David of Third World County, this is a shame. A shame because I don’t hear about a new cathedral being built for the Christians, or a temple for hindus, or sikhs. Why is the British establishment bending over backwards specifically for muslims? There are plenty of mosques in Britain as it is and as the article points out, the largest Anglican place of worship, Liverpool Cathedral, only holds 3000.
As The Times reports:
A MASSIVE mosque that will hold 40,000 worshippers is being proposed beside the Olympic complex in London to be opened in time for the 2012 Games.
The project’s backers hope the mosque and its surrounding buildings would hold a total of 70,000 people, only 10,000 fewer than the Olympic stadium.
Its futuristic design features wind turbines instead of the traditional minarets, while a translucent latticed roof would replace the domes seen on most mosques. The complex is designed to become the “Muslim quarter” for the Games, acting as a hub for Islamic competitors and spectators.

Shame on you - please do your research before making remarks likely to cause racial hatred. Any religious group can take the initiative to apply to develop a new place of worship.
I wouldn’t recommend you to design a website in case your shameful views slipped in.

Interestingly enough, the article actually points to the inequality of religious views in this nation. I asked why the establishment is bending over backwards for muslims, when they are not doing the same or making the same effort for Christians, or for that matter Buddhists, Hindus etc.,

The reason those other places are not being built is because those people are not building them.
You needs facts, which the papers don’t bother with: The mosque is being built by Muslims without any assistance from the government.
In fact, the council originally put so many conditions and barriers to the mosque being built that it took ages before the work was even started.
The original building of this mosque had nothing to do with the Olympics, and still doesn’t.
It’s called opportunism that the papers have linked it to the Olympics in order to make Muslims look bad. Big surprise, huh?
Don’t believe everything you read.
