Dog Chases Your Children, In Your Yard, What Would You Do?
Monday November 28, 2005
Here’s a good story for you, courtesy TBO.com:
A man shot his neighbor’s 1-year-old boxer dog in the leg Thursday because the dog had come onto his property and was chasing children, sheriff’s officials said.
John Darley fired two warning shots into the ground with a .22-caliber rifle, authorities said, before he shot the dog in a rear leg. The shooting happened about 3 p.m. in the 7600 block of 42 Avenue West in Bradenton.
The dog dug a hole under the privacy fence and began chasing Darley’s children, sheriff’s officials said.
When the children went into the house, Darley grabbed his Remington rifle.
Darley told deputies he hoped the warning shots would scare the dog away. Instead, he said, the dog went after him, and he fired at its legs.
The dog’s owner took it to a veterinarian for treatment.
Now if that were me, I wouldn’t be shooting to injure. If a dog were chasing my children, and knowing what dogs do to young children, I’d have shot him to kill. Then of course, I’d probably end up in jail but at least my children would be safe.
What would YOU do?
