Iraqi Boom Time?
Saturday November 5, 2005
A bit of good news I found at Little Green Footballs (and why is their damned register closed?!), apparently not a major story (but it should be), Iraqis are experiencing a boom time! In August, 30,000 new businesses started up.
The full article they point at is written by Ron Nessen for The Washington Post. Also, he writes that there are now 3.5 million cellphone subscribers, up from 0 under Saddam. Man that’s one group of talkers! But that IS a good thing, they’re talking at least, not necessarily ALL of them are killing each other
Similarly if you read the article he points out that Iraqis are investing in banks, which was a sore point, because the police weren’t being paid regularly because of a lack of banks.
Update: I thought I would add a few Iraqi blog links, just in case anything there is of interest: Democracy in Iraq, Hammorabi, Healing in Iraq, Iraq Election Wire, Iraq & Iraqis, Iraq at a Glance, Iraq the Model, Iraqi Bloggers Central, The Mesopotamian, News From Baghdad.

Yeah definately. Unfortunately at this stage in the game, they are still producing 300,000 barrels less oil per day than they were under Saddam … So much for all the billions in oil Bush promised would pay for the rebuilding!
