A Judge Nominated to be a Judge!
Monday October 31, 2005
Wow, that’s a surprise. What on earth is the media going to have to complain about now?
Honestly though, it’s finally a sensible nomination, someone with judicial experience, makes a refreshing change from Harriet Miers. And perhaps Alito doesn’t think President Bush is the most intelligent man on the planet, which puts him with the rest of us
Zombyboy at Resurrection Song thinks that the Democrats are going to filibuster this one, and we both agree that at least he has the qualifications for the job (unlike say, a previous female nominee).
Think Progress thinks that Senator Hatch is warning Alito nomination opponents against voting against him, saying that it could bring up the race card, with Italian-Americans watching this carefully. Silly silly silly. How about votes are given on his record? Frankly I couldn’t care less if he was green with red polka dots as long as he is a fair judge, intelligent, and doesn’t legislate from the bench.
There are some sexual equality issues here too, Alito voted that women should inform their husbands about getting abortions, Mediagirl brings that point up.
I think that this is going to be an interesting battle, the politics of this nomination aren’t necessarily clear, but the conservatives should certainly be happy about this. The left might not be so happy, and look like they’re gearing up for a real fight.
Makes you wonder how Alito feels to be sloppy seconds …

Gee. Yeh, they didn’t particularly like the last non-judge who was nominated… and confirmed to the court, later elevated to Chief Justice. Rhenquist. What’s to make them more receptive to a judge who doesn’t pass muster with their idiotologies? (No, notatypo
