It sounds like something out of the same newspapers alongside “double-decker bus found on moon”. But no, this is true. Sick too. A white farmer was convicted of murdering Nelson Chisale, a former employee after he came back for his belongings. He was beaten up by Mark Scott-Crossley then thrown to the lions (yes, it’s implied he was thrown alive to the lions, but Mr Scott-Crossley adamantly insisted he was dead). Nelson was black. In a land where for decades a virtual state of slavery existed, this trial has highlighted racial tensions that have existed since Apartheid. Life in prison is the maximum sentence that can be handed down.

Unfortunately South Africa does not have the death penalty, but I think that for a crime like this, throwing a man to be eaten alive, it would have deserved it. What a horrible fate, and what a terrible crime. I seriously doubt Mr Scott-Crossley will live long in prison as his views are clearly racist and dripping with insincerity.
