There has been anecdotal evidence for years that cellphones cause brain cancers and the like, but that’s all it is, anecdotal. But as scientists will, research has been carried out on the type of microwave radiation cellphones use, and bovine eyes. They have found that it causes two kinds of damage, macroscopic and microscopic, with the microscopic damage being permanent. The original article I read is at Roland Piquepaille’s Technology Trends blog, here, which linked to the Israeli study.

I’ve talked about it before of course, and my friend Diane also had an post on cellphones and their toxic components. This evidence though, is disconcerting especially as more and more teenagers use cellphones (predictions of 1 billion cellphones sold annually by 2009). Are our youth unknowingly exposing themselves to damage that will affect them in later life? This kind of damage was noted long ago, after World War 2 radar operators had higher rates of cataracts which initiated research even back then.

Possible solutions to this issue? Get hands-free equipment, place the antenna away from you in the car, use your cellphone at little as possible, or even *gasp* use a land-line phone!
